About Mary Thoma:
Award-winning Actress, Director, Coach and Instructor Mary Thoma has been teaching acting to young people and adults for over 25 years. With credits in theater, film, television and radio, she is a versatile actress, commercial talent, director and a proud member of the Screen Actor’s Guild. She is Director of The Art and Soul of Acting studio in Shreveport, LA and a sister studio to The True Acting Institute in the USA/ Europe, the only studio with this honor in the state of LA.
Ms. Thoma has trained with author and director Larry Silverberg ( Meisnerteacher.com), The Broadway Teaching Lab, The National Theater of The Deaf, Kevin Rahm ( Desperate Housewives) and a variety of other professional actors and directors. Thoma has worked on screen with actors Tom Sizemore, Gary Grubbs, Alia Shawkat, Illeana Douglas and Bill Smitrovich. This summer, Ms. Thoma portrayed the role of Sherry in the film, OPEN GATE, shot in Texas with rising star Tyler Hoechlin. She also auditioned and cast vocal talent for the IPAD voice application, SPEAKER THREE and trained in Florida at The True Acting Institute to become certified in teaching the Meisner Approach. The Meisner Approach is one of the top three acting approaches used by professional actors worldwide. In addition to her professional acting and commercial talent work, she founded three theater companies and is in her ninth year at Southfield Middle School teaching drama and directing the Middle School Musicals. She is the recipient of both acting and directing awards including the Providential Award for Best Director for her theater company production of THIS IS WHO I AM and SB Magazine’s Best Actress Award for her portrayal of Annie Sullivan in The Miracle Worker.

June 2010 : Mary booked the role of SHERRY in the SAG film, OPEN GATE in Atlanta, TX.

Mary recently completed a weeklong residency for ARTBREAK withThe National Little Theatre of the Deaf. Students were taught theater games and exercises and rehearsed a production of STORIES IN MY POCKET to be performed with LTD at the ARTBREAK festival April 26 – May 2.

From a press release from Larry Silverberg:
“Larry’s launching his new center for the Meisner work in Europe, the “True Acting Institute Europe” which is located just outside historic Bamberg, Germany. Programming at True Acting Institute Europe will begin in August, 2010. And here in the US, Larry is teaming up with actress and teacher, Mary Thoma of Shreveport, Louisiana to open a branch of the True Acting Institute in Shreveport. The first True Acting master classes for the professional actors of Louisiana will begin in April of 2010.
- Mary just returned from teaching at the Texas Educational Theatre Festival (TETA) Jan 21-24 where she worked with Larry Silverberg. Other guest artists included Carol Channing and Bernadette Peters. Mary taught her process for leading an Actors Support Group to teens and adults.
Latest Performance News:
Summer 2010: Mary played Sherry in the film OPEN GATE , Cast the IPAD application SPEAKER THREE and trained with Larry Silverberg at the True Acting Institute.
Ms. Thoma’s film work includes The Last Lullaby(w/ Tom Sizemore) Mr. Brooks (w/ Kevin Costner and William Hurt), Lifetime television’s Not Like Everyone Else, and ABC Family’s The Initiation of Sarah.



On stage, she most recently performed in the Shreveport Little Theatre production of Neil Simon’s RUMORSplaying the progressively drunk socialite, Chris Gorman to wildly appreciative audiences. Prior to this, Ms. Thoma played the role of the bereaved mother Becca Corbitt in RABBIT HOLEand the eccentric and devoted drama teacher Ms. Darbus in High School Musical.
Ms Thoma is also a popular regional radio/television commercial talent and early morning live host for KTBS/KPXJ’s Business Spotlights.
